Governor announces Paxton company expansion

Press Release - Monday, July 21, 2003

PAXTON, ILL. - Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich today announced an expansion of Baltimore Aircoil Company (BAC) in Paxton that will mean the hiring of 46 new workers to join the more than 200 employees currently employed at the facility.

"The growth of economic development in our state is critical," Blagojevich said during a visit to the plant in Paxton. "That's why we are very pleased to join in this partnership with Baltimore Aircoil Company and the city of Paxton in support of new investment and job creation in Illinois."

Baltimore AirCoil is eligible for tax credits through the Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) program and for workforce training grants through the Industrial Training Program (ITP).  The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) administers the program.

"Baltimore Aircoil Company's commitment to this project not only means new jobs, but also maintains the long term viability of the Paxton facility," said DCEO Director Jack Lavin. "I also want to thank the people of Paxton for working with us to help create the jobs that are helping to move this state forward."

BAC plans a 25,000 square foot addition at their current facility where they manufacture evaporative and cooling tower units for major industries. BAC is one of the AMSTED Industries, an employee-owned company headquartered in Chicago.

"We appreciate the support and cooperation of Governor Blagojevich, the state of Illinois and the city of Paxton," said Bruce Schehlein, plant manager of BAC's Paxton location. "We have a strong commitment to this community and look forward to our future growth."

"The city of Paxton and east central Illinois have benefited greatly from the ongoing assistance provided by the state of Illinois," said Paxton Mayor James Kingston. "Our infrastructure advantages, strong work force and transportation access, combined with our relationship with the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, support an environment for growth which has led to Paxton becoming home to several firms with national ties and markets. Governor Rod Blagojevich and his staff exhibit the State of Illinois' continued partnership in local economic growth."
