Governor Announces 2002 Community Development Assistance Program Planning Assistance Grants

Press Release - Friday, June 28, 2002

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today announced that 30 Illinois communities are recipients of 2002 Community Development Assistance Program (CDAP) Planning Assistance grants totaling $700,000.

The grants are funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and are given to units of local government for water and sewer planning projects. The projects, which are chosen following a competitive application review, are designed to address threats to public health and safety and which will benefit at least 51 percent low-to-moderate income persons.

"The communities that are receiving these grants are facing issues with basic infrastructure needs that many of us take for granted," said Ryan. "These funds will assist these towns and villages in addressing quality of life issues for their residents."

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs (DCCA) administers the CDAP program through Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. The money is available to assist Illinois communities meet their greatest economic and community development needs.

"The CDAP grants serve as a tremendous resource for many municipalities throughout Illinois," said DCCA Director Pam McDonough. "This is the first step for these communities as they look to make necessary improvements benefiting residents and businesses alike."
