Ryan: $60,000 in Illinois FIRST Projects for the West Suburbs

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $60,000 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in the West Suburbs, including $20,000 to the Hesed House to assist in reconstructing the shower and bathroom facilities at its South River Street location in Aurora.

The Hesed House is a nonprofit organization that provides assistance to the poor and homeless people of Kane County with food, clothing and shelter. Reconstruction of the restrooms will allow the organization to be in full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Rep. Timothy L. Schmitz, R-Batavia.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $15,000 to the Hesed House to assist in the reconstruction of the shower and bathroom facilities on South River Street.

  • $15,000 to the Lisle Community School District 202 to purchase lighting equipment for Wilde Field. The district is contributing $65,000.

  • $5,000 to Batavia RSVP, Inc., to provide medication assistance to ten area senior citizens.
    This project was initiated by Schmitz.

  • $5,000 to the Montgomery & Countryside Fire Protection District to repair a ladder truck. The district is contributing $60,000.
