Ryan: $248,500 in Illinois FIRST Projects for the Far Northwest Suburbs

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $248,500 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in the Far Northwest Suburbs, including $212,000 to the City of Elgin to purchase video cameras for 61 police cars.

The cameras will enhance the police officers' ability to document arrests, monitor the conduct of officers, assess training needs and document police tactics.

This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Rep. Douglas L. Hoeft, R-Elgin.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $24,000 to the Rutland Dundee Township Fire Protection District to purchase 30 pagers and12 portable radios.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. Steven J. Rauschenberger, R-Elgin.

  • $10,000 to the Family Health Partnership Clinic, Woodstock, to hire personnel and to purchase medical supplies.

  • $2,500 to Illinois Storytelling, Inc., to support its storytelling festival in the Spring Grove Village Park. The organization is contributing $56,870.
