Governor Invites Public To Tour Executive Mansion This Holiday

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan and First Lady Lura Lynn Ryan invite the public to a holiday Open House at the Illinois Executive Mansion on Sunday, Dec. 5 from 1 to 5 p.m.

"I have always said that this is the people's house and I want everyone to know that they are welcome to visit the Governor's Mansion here in Springfield," said Mrs. Ryan. This is the Ryan's first holiday season as the First Family.

The public will be allowed to tour the rooms on public display including the Abraham Lincoln bedroom, the Kankakee Room, Ballroom and Formal Dining Room. Cookies and apple cider will be served. Mrs. Ryan said the Executive Mansion is decorated in a traditional holiday theme with garland, decorated trees, candles and thousands of colorful lights.

This is a yearly event sponsored by the Illinois Executive Mansion Association. The Association is responsible for maintaining the historical integrity of the Governor's Mansion.

The Mansion is located at 410 East Jackson Street. The festivities at the Mansion require no entrance fee.
