I-55 Lane Closure Begins April 26

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Transportation announces roadwork on Interstate 55 from a half-mile north of Stevenson Drive to a half-mile north of Interstate 72 (Clearlake Avenue) beginning at 7 p.m. April 26.

Work will take place during nighttime hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays.

Construction will begin in the southbound lanes. One lane will be closed at a time. Once southbound lanes are completed, work will begin on the northbound lanes.

The work is necessary for pavement patching and resurfacing, which is expected to be completed by early fall.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, restrain from using mobile devices and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
