Ryans Invite Public to Tour Executive Mansion

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan and First Lady Lura Lynn Ryan invite the public to a Holiday Open House at the Illinois Executive Mansion on Sunday, Dec. 3 from 1 to 5 p.m.

"The mansion is decorated beautifully this holiday season and is truly a sight to behold." Mrs. Ryan said. "I want to encourage families to take time to tour the Executive Mansion and enjoy the beauty and history of this state treasure.

"I have always said that this is the people's house," the First Lady added, "and I want everyone to know that they are welcome to visit the Executive Mansion here in Springfield."

The public will be allowed to tour the rooms on public display including the Abraham Lincoln bedroom, the Kankakee Room, Ballroom and Formal Dining Room. Cookies and apple cider will be served. Mrs. Ryan said the Executive Mansion is decorated in a traditional Victorian holiday theme with garland, decorated trees, candles and thousands of lights.

This is a yearly event sponsored by the Illinois Executive Mansion Association - a not-for-profit association responsible for maintaining the historical integrity of the Executive Mansion.

The Mansion is located at 410 East Jackson Street. The Holiday Open House is free to the public.
