Governor Announces Another Krupp Gerlach Expansion in Danville

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today commended Krupp Gerlach Company for its plans to locate a new 12,000-ton press line within the Danville Forge Plant. The new line will enable the facility to become globally competitive in the manufacture of heavy-duty crankshaft forgings, while allowing for the retention of approximately 150 jobs.

Last week, Krupp Gerlach announced expansion plans for the company's Presta Division in Danville.

"The Illinois economy relies heavily on international commerce and so it's crucial that companies located here can effectively compete in the global marketplace," Ryan said. "We are committed to nurturing a business climate that allows international companies such as Krupp Gerlach the opportunity to expand their operations here and provide good jobs for our citizens."

As part of the expansion project, approximately 14,000-sq. ft. of new building space will be added to the existing 205,000-sq. ft. facility at an estimated cost of $5 million. Building and infrastructure work is scheduled to begin in the first quarter 2001, and the facility is expected to be at full production levels by the end of 2002. The state-of-the-art technology and equipment will add $25 million to the project.

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs (DCCA) assisted Krupp Gerlach with its expansion plans by offering up to $120,000 in job training assistance through the Industrial Training Program. In addition, the company is eligible for EDGE tax credits.

"Whether it's helping train workers, providing competitive tax incentives, or addressing local infrastructure needs, DCCA stands ready to promote economic development in communities across the state."

"The ongoing efforts of the State of Illinois and the Danville Area Economic Development Corporation were instrumental in securing Danville as the best location for the new press line," said Krupp Gerlach Company President Joe Pycz, who also recognized the hard work, ideas and cooperation of local plant management, International UAW, and UAW Local 2128 representatives. The Danville Forge operation supplies over 90% of crankshaft forgings to the U.S heavy-duty truck market. Main customers include Caterpillar, Cummins, and Detroit Diesel. Krupp Gerlach Company is a ThyssenKrupp Automotive company.
