Ryan Announces Funding To Upgrade Wastewater Treatment Facility In Edwardsville

Press Release - Tuesday, November 23, 1999

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that a low-interest loan of more than $9 million has been approved to help the city of Edwardsville improve their wastewater treatment facility.

The loan will be made under the state's Wastewater Revolving Loan Fund, administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. Ryan's Illinois FIRST program guarantees full funding of the state's share of these loans for the next 5 years.

"Low-interest loans such as this one make it possible for communities like Edwardsville to make the wastewater treatment improvements needed to serve their growing populations," Ryan said.

The $9,295,053 loan will allow construction of a wastewater treatment plant expansion, replacement of an influent gravity sewer leading to the plant, and upgrades of the excess flow facilities.

Funding for the state's low interest wastewater and drinking water revolving loan funds comes through 80 percent federal money channeled though the IEPA and 20 percent state matching funds. Money repaid goes back into the program to fund additional loans.
