A Statement from Governor George H. Ryan

Press Release - Wednesday, September 12, 2001

"President Bush has ordered that all American Flags be lowered to half staff until sundown on Sunday, September 16, 2001, as a mark of our deepest respect for all of those killed by the heinous acts of violence committed on September 11.

On behalf of the people of this state, I also order that all Illinois flags be lowered to half staff as a mark of respect until sundown on Sunday, September 16, 2001.

As a further sign that we, as a state and as country, are united and steadfast in our conviction to overcome the cowardly acts of terrorists, I encourage everyone in Illinois to proudly fly an American flag from their homes and businesses. There is no greater sign that America is strong and still stands than to see "Old Glory" flying."
