Ryan: $9.1 Million in Illinois FIRST Projects for DuPage County

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $9.115 million in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in DuPage County, including $5.4 million to Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 to help renovate York High School.

The renovations will be completed in two phases. Phase I will consist of a new academic wing in which classrooms, computer and science labs, art areas and forum rooms will be housed. Phase II will consist of renovating the central core of the building and enclosing the courtyard to accommodate a larger cafeteria and commons area. A portion of this building will be demolished to house an athletic facility for regular programs, extracurricular practices/events, and community programs. The district is contributing $72 million.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $2,300,000 to the DuPage County Office of the Sheriff to expand and renovate the DuPage County Crime Lab.

  • $1,000,000 to the City of Wood Dale to conduct an engineering study of the intersection and rail crossing at Irving Park/Wood Dale Road.
    This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by House Republican Leader Lee A. Daniels, R-Elmhurst.

  • $250,000 to the Village of Roselle to help reconstruct and resurface Roselle Road to Rodenburg Road. This is part of the village's Central Avenue project.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. Doris C. Karpiel, R-Carol Stream.

  • $100,000 to the Village of LaGrange Park to construct a new, fully enclosed salt storage facility for its Public Works Department.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. Thomas J. Walsh, R-LaGrange.

  • $45,000 to the Village of LaGrange Park to purchase and install a vehicle exhaust system for two fire stations.
    This project was initiated by Walsh.

  • $20,000 to the York Township Highway Department to repair a storm water management system on 16th Street between Meyers Road and Fairview Road in Lombard.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. Peter Roskam, R-Wheaton.
