Governor Ryan Signs Bills To Fight Internet Crimes Against Children, Home Repair Fraud And To Notify Crime Victims
CHICAGO-- Governor George H. Ryan signed into law bills which will help Illinois law enforcement crack down on sex criminals who victimize children over the internet, protect consumers from home repair fraud and create a statewide notification system for crime victims and witnesses to be informed when convicted criminals are released.
"These laws will help police and prosecutors better protect the people of Illinois against predatory criminals and fraud artists," Governor Ryan said. "Protecting children, consumers and crime victims are the most important things we can do in government and every Illinoisan has the right not to be victimized."
"The new victim notification law puts victims first, where they belong," said Attorney General Jim Ryan. "It is the first step in creating a statewide notification system that will allow victims and other citizens instant access to vital criminal information."
