Governor Quinn Makes Executive Appointments

CHICAGO - Governor Pat Quinn today made a number of key appointments to the state's boards and commissions. Today's announcement continues the governor's commitment to making Illinois government more accountable, transparent and effective.

"These individuals are committed to serving the people of Illinois on our state boards and commissions," Governor Quinn said. "I am confident these capable people will help make our state an even better place to live and work."

As a result of Governor Quinn's efforts to make the executive appointment process more accessible and transparent, residents who are interested in serving on boards and commissions can now apply online.

The governor's appointments are as follows:

Chicago Transit Authority Board:

Frank Zuccarelli, of South Holland, currently serves as Supervisor of Thornton Township, having been first elected in 1993. He was elected as a Trustee to the Community College District #510 in 1978. He replaces John Bouman in a slot on the board representing suburban metro Chicago. The appointment requires Senate approval.

Medical Licensing Board:

Dr. Philip Dray is a physician at Chicago's Mount Sinai Hospital. He has a MD from Chicago Medical School and a BS from the University of Illinois. He was issued a physician and surgeon license in 1981. Dray fills a vacant physician's position on the board. The appointment requires Senate approval.

State Police Merit Board:

Earl Hernandez is a principal in Rockford School District 205. He has a Master's Degree in Education Administration from Northern Illinois University; a Master's in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University; and a BS in Social Justice Administration from Lewis University. He replaces Kenneth Schloemer, whose term had expired. The appointment requires Senate approval.

Council on Developmental Disabilities:

Catherine Christensen of Woodstock has been re-appointed to the Council. As the parent of a son who has Down syndrome, she has been an advocate for all people with disabilities for more than 24 years

Jose Ovalle of Chicago is the father of 21 year old male twins who have high functioning autism, and is affiliated with several autism related organizations that provide support and services to the families.

Abbey Heins of Bloomington is a person with a developmental disability and is a member of the Central Illinois Down Syndrome Organization.

Mario Johnson of Robinson works for the Lawrence Crawford Association for Exceptional Citizens day program.

These appointments do not require Senate approval.

Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board:

William Patrick Hartshorn of Danville, Vermilion County Sheriff for the past 22 years and in law enforcement for 40 years. He fills a new vacancy for a representative from the Illinois Sheriffs Association. The appointment does not require Senate approval.
