Governor Quinn Praises Senate Passage of South Suburban Airport Agreement
Public-Private Partnership Agreement Will Drive Development of Major Airport in Will County

SPRINGFIELD – Governor Pat Quinn today issued a statement about legislation that passed the Illinois Senate today that will allow development to proceed on the South Suburban Airport in Will County, one of the governor’s longstanding economic priorities. The bill passed the House yesterday and is headed to the governor’s desk. This key agreement delivers on Governor Quinn’s commitment to develop a third major Chicago area airport in the south suburbs.

“The Third Airport is coming to the South Suburbs.

“This agreement is a major step forward to develop the South Suburban Airport, which will ensure Illinois’ place as the transportation hub of the nation.

“The airport will create about 11,000 construction jobs, as many as 14,000 permanent jobs, and have a major economic impact for this growing region of Will, Kankakee and south Cook Counties.

“Since I became governor, I have worked to make the South Suburban Airport a reality and I thank the members of the Illinois General Assembly for sending this bill to my desk.”
