Governor Ryan Releases Funds For Loves Park Transit System

SPRINGFIELD - Governor George H. Ryan today released $117,250 to fund various public transit improvements for the Loves Park Transit System.

"Public transportation is vital to the Loves Park community," Ryan said. "These funds will help upgrade the Loves Park Transit System by improving the safety and convenience for those who utilize these services as well as extending further public transportation opportunities to people with disabilities."

These funds will be used to purchase two heavy-duty buses, one paratransit vehicle and other equipment. Two new 35-foot buses will be purchased with $100,000 in state funds to replace two 1986 buses that have become worn by age.

The remaining funds will be used to purchase a paratransit vehicle, replacing an older vehicle, as well as miscellaneous maintenance equipment.

State and federal resources will fund this project. The total cost of the Loves Park Transit System purchases total $586,250 making the federal portion $469,000. Equipment purchases are expected to take place immediately with installation expected to begin this fall.
