Governor and First Lady Host Halloween at Executive Mansion

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor and Mrs. Ryan will welcome all kindergarten through 6th grade elementary school children to parade in their costumes at the Illinois Executive Mansion for the annual "No Tricks-Just Treats" event on Sunday, October 28, 2001.

"The Governor and I are looking forward to seeing the children in their creative Halloween costumes," said Mrs. Ryan. "It is a great opportunity for the children to spend time at the mansion, learn about Illinois' history, and have fun."

The Halloween activities will begin at the Illinois State Police Armory at noon. The theme, "Where are the Wild Things"- safari style will feature a variety of entertainment for the children including jugglers and magicians.

At 4:00 p.m., there will be a "Parade of Costumes" from the Armory to the Illinois Executive Mansion. Mrs. Ryan will welcome the children and their parents at the door to the Mansion.

The children will be invited to walk through the pumpkin filled halls to the dining room where they will each receive a bag of Halloween candy.

"The distributors across Illinois are thrilled with the opportunity to once again hold this worthwhile family event at the beautiful Executive Mansion. We thank the many manufacturers who have donated their products to continue this safe, fun tradition," said Harry L. Kelley, who represents the candy distributors and manufacturers of Illinois who have sponsored the Executive Mansion's "No Tricks- Just Treats" for the past thirteen years.

Every hour there will be new and exciting programs in the State Police Armory, where the festivities run from noon until 4 p.m. The cost to participate at the Armory is $2 per child and accompanying adults are free. The Illinois State Police Armory is located at the corner of 2nd and Monroe Street. Visitors are asked to enter at Monroe Street.

The Mansion is located at 410 East Jackson Street. Local school children (grades six and under) have been invited to trick or treat at the historic home from 4:00-6:00 p.m. The festivities at the Mansion require no entrance fee.
