Ryan: $717,000 in Illinois FIRST Projects for the Kankakee and Illinois River Valleys

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $717,000 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in the Kankakee and Illinois River Valleys, including $450,000 to the City of Spring Valley for water and sewer system improvements.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $150,000 to the Village of Gardner
  • to construct a storm sewer along the west side of Jackson Street, Campus Road, and continuing south to Route 53, to alleviate flooding. The village is contributing $15,000.

  • $50,000 to the City of Marseilles to construct sidewalks on Orange Avenue, 10th Street, Colorado Street and parts of Bratton Avenue. The city is contributing $10,000.
  • $32,000 to Herscher Legion Community Center to purchase a generator. The center will provide emergency shelter for Herscher and surrounding areas.
  • $25,000 to the City of Marseilles to hire an additional 9-1-1 emergency dispatcher.
  • $10,000 to Grundy County Senior Citizens Council, Inc. to purchase equipment at the Coal City facility for the operation of the Nutrition Program.
