$502,500 in Illinois FIRST Projects for Southern Illinois

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $502,500 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Southern Illinois, including $75,000 to the City of Nashville to install a right hand turn lane and a center turn lane at the intersections of Mockingbird Road and Enterprise Avenue and to install a traffic signal at Enterprise Avenue.

This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Rep. Dan Reitz, D-Steeleville.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

• $40,000 to the Carrier Mills Fire Department to purchase new fire and safety equipment.
  This project was initiated by State Rep. Jim Fowler, D-Harrisburg.

• $35,000 to the Rosiclare Fire Department to install a heating and cooling system and to purchase a new fire truck and fire and safety equipment.
  This project was initiated by Fowler.

• $30,000 to the City of Vienna to make improvements to its ball park.
  This project was initiated by Fowler.

• $30,000 to the Village of Okawville to purchase tornado sirens.
  This project was initiated by State Sen. David Luechtefeld, R-Okawville.

• $30,000 to Hoyleton Township to construct a new maintenance storage building.
  This project was initiated by Luechtefeld.

• $22,000 to the Shawneetown Volunteer Fire Department to purchase a fire truck,fire coats, bunker pants, helmets and boots.
  This project was initiated by Fowler.

• $20,000 to the Village of Buncombe to purchase a brush truck, uniforms, boots and fire equipment.
  This project was initiated by Fowler.

• $20,000 to the Union County Sheriff's Department to purchase a new police car.
  This project was initiated by Fowler.

• $20,000 to the Village of Pulaski to repair and refurbish a 1972 pumper truck.
  This project was initiated by Fowler.

• $20,000 to the Nashville Community Fire Protection District to purchase fire equipment. The district is contributing $29,626.
  This project was initiated by Reitz.

• $16,000 to the Presby TIPS Foundation to purchase and install carpet at the Tips Learning Tree Day Care Center.
  This project was initiated by Fowler.

• $15,000 to the Addieville Fire Protection District to purchase an air delivery system and an extrication tool.
  This project was initiated by Luechtefeld.

• $15,000 to the New Athens Fire Protection District to purchase new fire and safety equipment.
  This project was initiated by Reitz.

• $12,000 to the Village of Equality to purchase new fire and safety equipment.
  This project was initiated by Fowler.

• $10,000 to Century Community Unit School District 100 to purchase computers, printers and internet filtering software.
  This project was initiated by Fowler.

• $10,000 to the Prairie du Rocher Community Fire Department to purchase new fire and safety equipment.
  This project was initiated by Reitz.

• $10,000 to the Columbia Rural fire Protection District to purchase a mulit-passenger truck.
  This project was initiated by Reitz.

• $10,000 to Oakdale Township to purchase a dump truck.
  This project was initiated by Reitz.

• $10,000 to the Coulterville Community Fire Protection District to purchase fire equipment.
  This project was initiated by Luechtefeld.

• $10,000 to Millstadt Township Senior Services to purchase computers, printers, a fax machine, a literature rack, workstations and chairs, office supplies and internet service for one year.
  This project was initiated by Reitz.

• $10,000 to the Science Center, Carbondale to bring the "Make It Move" exhibit to the museum.
  This project was initiated by Luechtefeld.

• $5,000 to the Family Counseling Center to provide a 10-day summer fun program to educate children about the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol.
  This project was initiated by Fowler.

• $5,000 to Randolph County Recycling to support recycling programs within the county.
  This project was initiated by Reitz.

• $5,000 to the Smithton Public Library to purchase and install carpet.
  This project was initiated by Reitz.

• $5,000 to Williamson County to purchase computer equipment for the Crab Orchard Community Library.
  This project was initiated by Fowler.

• $4,000 to the Alto Pass Water District to install and setup an automated/computerized billing system.
  This project was initiated by Luechtefeld.

• $3,500 to the Golden Circle Senior Citizens Council to purchase a floor buffer/scrubber/vacuum and a public address system.
  This project was initiated by Fowler.

• $3,000 to the Brookport Senior Citizens to remodel its facility.
  This project was initiated by Fowler.

• $2,000 to the St. Clair Cooperative Extension to provide workshops on family care giving.
  This project was initiated by Reitz.
